Review & Description
Viña Nava has to be the best value Spanish pink in our cellars. We first came across it courtesy of a tip-off from friends in Rioja.
Now while Riojan pink is good, it only accounts for 2% of the wine made. So it is rare and expensive. Viña Nava, on the other hand, comes from a highly acclaimed cellar ... in neighbouring Navarra.
Just as Rioja is most famous for its reds, Navarra has always been - as Master of Wine Tim Atkin says - "Spain's best pink wine region". That's because here the Garanacha grape (as oipposed to Rioja's Tempranillo) is king and Garnacha is simply "the best grape for rose" (Wine Spectator).
This has all the lashings of strawberries-and-cream flavours that make it so popular (and have led previous vintages to Gold medal success) ... but with an even fresher, zingier finish thanks to a superb 2010 vintage in Spain!
